Motors Down

From Seeking Unqualified Dreamers

Motors Down

Motors Down opens at full throttle, a dense interlocking groove where fretless bass, angular piano, and tabla collide in what feels like the climax of something already in progress. Rose sustains that chaotic energy before systematically dismantling it, pulling away layers of guitar, drums, and harmonic detail until only a spare, repeating tabla-and-lyre figure remains. It’s a reversal of the usual dramatic arc, and coming after Minor Pocket’s bright lift the jolt of that opening chaos lands hard. The groove anchors the piece through constant metric shifts and tempo elasticity; the production captures room detail and transient crispness that makes each dissolution feel earned rather than accidental. This is worldly, intellectually restless music that refuses easy resolution, and as the album begins its descent toward the close, that slow unbuilding does real structural work.
