‘Belligerent’ asked who you’re yelling for; ‘Delusion of Truth’ answers by widening the lens to the whole room. At a driving tempo, it hits the ground running and doesn’t let up, with the rhythm section locked in tight and the chorus, ‘Welcome to the bubble, the Delusion of Truth,’ landing with the kind of communal punch that Audioslave used to own. The pre-chorus, ‘I’ll bet you won’t let go / Of the shit you think you know,’ is blunt in the best way, and the layered vocals make it feel like a full room agreeing with you. In sequence, these two tracks form a hard-rock diptych: one turning the rage inward, the next pointing outward. The production is dense and loud without turning to mud, which is harder to pull off than it sounds, and it sustains the album’s energy heading into the final two.
