Too August
From Baker's Dozen
Too August
A waltz at a brisk clip sounds like a contradiction, but PCBender makes it feel inevitable: the triple meter gives his blues phrasing room to breathe and lean, and the creamy overdriven guitar sits in a clean, spacious mix that keeps every bend and rapid-fire run audible without crowding the pocket. It plays like a live-in-studio take, the kind of thing John Mayer might have cut after hours with a Stevie Ray Vaughan record on the turntable. Coming off the uplifting bounce of sparkles-in-july, the shift here into something warmer and more deliberate is well-timed: the album has been building through lighter textures, and too-august arrives as a confident, grounded anchor before the back half opens up again with september-on-my-mind. It does its job and does it well.
