Allocution

Lyrics

I’ve come to say the final line To lay you down, with words said kind They say you're dead, and that is true But I still feel the weight of you

I spoke in threads, I praised your fame Ignored the parts that cut like blame I wore conviction like a crown But always made a hollow sound

This is my allocution My final claim to light I told the world my truth And hoped it sounded right But now the silence answers With something I can't fake This is my allocution- And I may be too late

You spoke your truth, but I remain Not loud, not lost-and not a claim I do not beg. I do not bend I am the means, not just the end

You shouted facts like they were fire But I am neither loud nor dire I am the hand, the root, the light What’s left after the endless fight

This is my allocution Not carved in stone or light I am the one that listens To what you cannot write I am the quiet answer To questions you won't ask This is my allocution- No spotlight, and no mask

I am the simple way, like water over stone I never shout-I shape what’s left alone But you- You choose the noise, the brighter course And cursed the stream that held no force I offered ease You asked for more And still I wait behind the door

This is the allocution Not to convince, but see Not to be right, but reckon With what we'll never be There is no clean conclusion No sermon to recite Only this allocution- To say it And be quiet
